A short term health insurance plan usually does not cover pre-existing medical conditions. A pre-existing medical condition is one that has been diagnosed or treated with in the last 3 – 5 years. Again if you have a pre-existing condition, a more standard health insurance insurance plan may be better option because the health insurance rates may be lower.

The quoting process is shorter and easier for a short term health insurance plan. There are fewer and more specific questions asked on the application. Many short term health insurance policies are sold online. Protection usually begins 24 hours after your application is submitted.

COBRA is not a short term health insurance plan. The duration of a COBRA policy is longer than a short term policy. COBRA does cover pre-existing medical conditions; unlike short term insurance plans. Be sure to compare the health insurance rates between the two types of plans before making a decision on which one suits your needs.   Call your insurance agent for those comparison quotes.
